This Friday, November 22, join WKCR as we celebrate the centennial of English composer Benjamin Britten. One of the most important and prolific composers of the 20th century, Britten was equally at home writing for children and amateurs as he was collaborating with prominent artists of his day, including Mstislav Rostropovich, Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau, and W.H. Auden. Britten was the first English composer to be awarded a life peerage, becoming Baron Britten of Aldeburgh, where he founded the famous Aldeburgh festival and lived and composed until his death in 1976. We will air a selection of his operatic, orchestral, and chamber works, including recordings performed or conducted by Britten himself.
