Cellist Mariel Roberts on Tuesday Morning's Cereal Music - Sept. 25
Submitted by Katie Salmon on Sun, 23 Sep 2012, 7:04pm
This week's Tuesday morning program will focus on experimental uses of the cello in classical music. In the final hour of the program we will be joined by cellist Mariel Roberts, who will play from and discuss her new solo album, nonextraneous sounds. The record features all new works for cello by New York-based composers Andy Akiho, Sean Friar, Alex Mincek, Tristan Perich, and Daniel Wohl. All with distinct sound worlds, three of the pieces incorporate electronics, two are for cello alone. The album as a whole tests the sonic limits of the cello through extended techniques, electronic sampling and sounds you never thought could be beautiful until now.
