Join us as we honor the life and work of jazz drummer Chico Hamilton, who passed away on Tuesday, November 26th. We will preempt regular programming from 12:00pm on Tuesday until 9:00pm Wednesday evening.

Hamilton began his musical career in the 1940s, playing in bands with Lionel Hampton, Lena Horne, and Billie Holiday. After gaining experience in Gerry Mulligan's group, he started his own band in 1955. Hamilton quickly went on to prove himself as a major figure in the development of West Coast cool Jazz. His quintet contributed significantly to the sound of West Coast jazz style and led the way for chamber jazz, as seen in the documentary "Jazz on a Summer's Day." Though popular interest in the style declined, Hamilton remained a formidable player and impressive influence on following generations. Tune in as we recognize his remarkable career.
