Lester Young and Charlie Parker Birthday Broadcasts: Friday, August 27 to Sunday, August 29

WKCR will dedicate 72 hours of programming to the music of Lester Young and Charlie Parker.

Tune in from August 27th to August 29th, as we celebrate the music of two of the most influential saxophonists of all time. The Lester Young- Charlie Parker Birthday Festival will begin on August 27th, the birthday of Lester "Pres" Young, a giant of the tenor saxophone known for his beautiful, melodic playing style. Starting midway through the day on August 28th, we will present the music of Charlie "Bird" Parker, one of the pioneers of bebop and another of the most innovative musicians of the 20th century. Bird's music will continue throughout his birthday, August 29th.
