Sonny Rollins Interview on Jazz Alternatives: Tuesday, September 24th at 6pm

Tune in to WKCR this Tuesday, September 24th at 6 pm to hear an interview with the legendary Sonny Rollins! DJ Renata Mittnacht will be talking to Mr. Rollins about his personal life, musical philosophy, and involvement in the production of the new documentary "Sonny Rollins Beyond the Notes." The documentary is scheduled to premiere October 2nd at the Woodstock Film Festival, and will be followed by a live Q&A session with director Dick Fontaine and Sonny Rollins himself.

Sonny Rollins is credited with introducing the tradition of playing be bop in ¾ meter; mingling Calypso patterns with jazz; and popularizing the practice of solo saxophone playing (without piano accompaniment). Revered for his incredible improvisational abilities, Rollins has written some of the most famous sax solos of all time.

Sonny Rollins is also the only living jazz musician who has played with Charlie Parker, Thelonious Monk, Miles Davis and John Coltrane in the Golden Age of Jazz.
