Submitted by Kevin "(the) Magu... on Mon, 4 Jul 2011, 4:40pm
Wednesday, July 6th, 6pm-9pm:
Join us for an exciting Musician's Show this week, as trumpeter/cornetist and composer Kirk Knuffke drops by the station to play his favorite jazz recordings alongside music from other genres. A tremendous improviser with a pure brass sound, Knuffke plays frequently with the cream of the New York jazz scene, including Matt Wilson, Josh Roseman, Andrew D'Angelo, Mary Halvorson, and many others. He has recorded two records as leader for Clean Feed, along with two recordings for SteepleChase accompanied by pianist Jesse Stacken in exploring the music of Mingus, Monk, and Duke. Tune in to hear discussions about contemporary jazz, the music's heritage, and where it's heading, only on WKCR.
