Your Academic Life: How do you decide?

Dear Student,

I'm writing, as chair of the committee that coordinates curriculum in the Arts and Sciences, to ask for your help with the committee's work.

Presidential Global Fellowship - Application Deadline (2/15)

Supported by a generous grant from President Lee C. Bollinger, the Presidential Global Fellowship funds a highly select group of current first year CC, SEAS and GS students to study abroad in summer 2014. The Fellowship aims to help these students develop a strong global foundation for their Columbia education by supporting them in finding meaningful opportunities to engage a broad range of global topics throughout their undergraduate career.

Columbia China Summer Study Abroad Programs Information Session (2/5)

Beijing Summer Program: This nine-week program immerses students in one of the world's most dynamic cities and offers five levels of intensive Chinese language studies from beginner through fifth year. Students complete the equivalent of one year of Chinese at Columbia. Group excursions in and around Beijing, lectures by local experts, and a week-long travel break give students insight into Chinese society and lifestyle.

Italian Cultural Studies in Venice Information Session (2/5)

The Department of Art History and Archaeology and the Department of Italian offer a six week summer program based at Ca' Foscari University for undergraduate and graduate students. The program uses an interdisciplinary approach to understanding Italian culture through study of its language, literature/film, art history/conservation, architecture and economy and the opportunity to gain a deeper appreciation of the rich Venetian culture, traditions and history. Elementary Italian available.

Columbia in Paris: Summer French Studies Information Session (2/6)

The Columbia in Paris: Summer French Studies program offers students the opportunity to take intensive French language courses or humanities and social sciences courses taught in French.  The equivalent of at least one year of college- level French is required to apply to the program.  Come learn more about the 2014 program, including exciting changes to the Intermediate Track program combining French language learning with an exploration of French culture, society and history!

Columbia in Paris: Semester or Academic Year Program Information Session (2/4)

The Columbia in Paris program located at Reid Hall, Columbia’s Global Center in Europe, offers students an incredible opportunity to master French language skills by engaging in immersive academic coursework in a variety of majors while integrating into French culture. The equivalent of at least two years of college- level French is required to participate in the program.

Hello Students,

Highlights this week include our program on Wednesday for international students in partnership with the International Students and Scholars Office. Also on Wednesday, meet with recruiters and alumni from Baublebar.com, Bloomingdales, DKNY, Macy's, Marc Jacobs, and Saks 5th Avenue at CCE's Fashion Industry Showcase. Tomorrow, there is a NYC Tech Talent Draft on campus and, on Friday, opportunity to hear from entrepreneur and Editor-in-Chief of BuzzFeed, Ben Smith.

MEETING FOR PROSPECTIVE BME MAJORS (First-Year Students) (1/31)

The requirements for the Biomedical Engineering major are changing, and current first-year students who declare BME next year will be the first class affected.  Information obtained from this session will help with academic planning and registration for future semesters.

Academic Opportunity: Mellon-Mays Undergraduate Fellowship - Info Session (2/3)

This program provides research training, faculty mentorship and financial support for Columbia College underrepresented minority students and other College students with a demonstrated commitment to racial diversity who wish to pursue a Ph.D. and whose intellectual and social commitments embody those of the late Dr. Benjamin Mays.

There will be an information session on Monday, February 3rd at 8:00 p.m. in 202 Hamilton Hall.

Summer Program in Tokyo: Japanese Film Studies at Waseda University (1/28)

Columbia has partnered with Waseda University in Japan to launch a new, innovative summer program which will provide undergraduate students the unique opportunity to explore the influential works of Japanese filmmaker Akira Kurosawa while studying alongside local Waseda students.

New Policy: Add/Drop Forms Go to the Center for Student Advising (403 Lerner)

Dear CC and SEAS students,

As you may know, up until now, you have had to go to the Student Service Center, 205 Kent Hall, to submit Add/Drop forms.

So that you do not have to wait on line at Kent, as of this semester, you should drop your forms off in the Center for Student Advising, 403 Lerner Hall. We will take them to the Registrar’s Office for immediate processing.
