Congratulations! We are delighted to formally extend you the opportunity to serve as an Orientation Leader for the New Student Orientation Program (NSOP) for the period beginning Monday, January 9, 2023 through Sunday, January 15, 2023. We are excited that you will become a valued member of our team. As you know, we are committed to attracting and retaining the best and brightest students to support our mission of excellence in the program. Outlined below are the terms surrounding your participation as an Orientation Leader.

Responsibilities

This role is responsible for the day-to-day programming details of the program under the supervision of Naja L. Muhammad, Assistant Director of Student Engagement, or designee. The duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Attend OL training beginning at noon on Monday, January 9 through 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 10
  • Serve as a resource and guide for new students throughout Spring NSOP from Wednesday, January 11 through Sunday, January 15 and welcome new students into the Columbia Community
  • Be present during the entirety of training and the week of spring orientation
  • Staff programs and events as assigned by the NSOP Staff
  • Keep in touch with the group of new students throughout their time and answer questions as needed
  • Always maintain a positive attitude towards Columbia University and the NSOP experience
  • Other duties as assigned

Expectations

Specific tasks/assignments are subject to change in response to unforeseen needs and refocused programming objectives.  As a student leader working with our department, it is expected you will fulfill all of your responsibilities as outlined in this document, as well as maintain a high level of professionalism at all times. This includes attending meetings, being punctual, meeting deadlines, keeping commitment to weekly hours, etc. The student leader is expected to be and remain in good University standing and maintain a 2.5 minimum GPA.

This role is expected to be an exceptional leader and mentor to the Undergraduate Student Life community, abiding by all University and School-specific conduct policies. In your capacity you have a duty to report any gender-based misconduct you encounter, or are made aware of, for the entire duration of time that you hold the position.  All program-related activities, events and trips are considered alcohol-free, regardless of legal age.

University or Public Health Restrictions

Should there be University or Public Health restrictions, including but not limited to COVID-19, that impact planning or operations, we may need to make adjustments and deviations from usual/regular programming. Accordingly, the activities as outlined in this agreement may need to be narrowed/reduced and required expectations would be adjusted. We will provide timely notification as we receive information if such adjustments are made.
