Senior Marshal
Priya Chainani, originally from Long Island, New York, is excited to graduate this May with a Bachelor of Arts in Medical Humanities. Her academic journey at Columbia University has been marked by a unique blend of interests in South Asian Studies and Public Health, leading her to a profound exploration of borders and the 1947 Partition of India. During her tenure at Columbia, Priya has embraced numerous leadership roles that have allowed her to deeply engage with the student community. As a sophomore, she made her mark by serving as a student representative on Student Council, where she introduced “Dec Day”—a celebratory tradition for Major Declaration Day. Then, she was elected Class of 2024 President during her junior and senior years. Additionally, Priya is the co-president of Symposium, a student organization dedicated to fostering cross-cultural dialogue through literary classics in high schools across the globe.
Thank you to my family and friends for their support throughout my collegiate journey. I am also thankful for the following mentors: Professors Jennifer Rhodes, Rachel Chung, Manan Ahmed, and Rishi Goyal. Additionally, I owe a special word of thanks to Nestor Hernandez, my advisor for the Columbia College Student Council (CCSC), whose support of my initiatives has enabled the creation of new traditions at Columbia that I hope will continue to thrive.
