Award Recognition

Indelible Mark
Victor Jandres Rivera has been deeply involved in racial and immigration justice work at Columbia University. By double majoring in Human Rights and Ethnicity and Race Studies, Victor has applied what he learned in class to his community service and advocacy projects. He joined the immigration justice organization Students For Sanctuary during his freshman year. Victor has held Co-Director and Immigration Clinic Director roles and assisted with organizing pro se immigration clinics, drives for migrant shelters, and other immigrant rights initiatives. He has also been a member of the Students of Color Advisory Board all four years at Columbia. Victor’s dedication to community service projects and fostering a culture of social justice have left a mark on Columbia’s campus. Next year, Victor will continue his education at Yale Law School.
I’m honored to receive this recognition from Columbia, and I would like to thank my family for supporting me. I also want to acknowledge that none of this work would’ve been possible without the tireless effort of other board members and classmates. As I continue my education at law school, I hope to take what I have learned from my classmates and apply it to my future social justice endeavors.
