Robert Shellow Gerdy Prize
Muni is a senior double-majoring in Sociology and English, fascinated by the intersections of social justice, literary expression, and Black feminism. She serves as co-Editor-in-Chief of Quarto Magazine, as a Senior Editor at The Blue and White Magazine, as an Advising Editor to Marigold Magazine, and the President of the Columbia Chapter of the Quest Scholars Network, an organization that supports fellow first-generation/low-income (FGLI) students through college. Her work primarily centers on uplifting the voices of marginalized community members, especially fellow Black students, in current campus culture as well as campus history. Such projects include her recent essay at The Blue and White about Columbia’s first Black literary magazine, Black Heights, and her revitalization of the QSN Mentorship Program for new FGLI undergraduates. She is being recognized for her continuous advocacy for more inclusivity within literary spaces on campus as well as her community-building efforts for FGLI students.
I’m ever grateful for these honors, for my friends and family, and for all the lovely people that have transformed my experience at Columbia! Thank you to my professors and advisors who encouraged me to merge my keenness for advocacy into my personal and intellectual passions. To my friends from The Blue & White, Quarto, Marigold, and the Quest Scholars Network–I’m so lucky to have shared community with you all over the past few years.
