Senior Marshal
Aaliyah is being recognized for her community-building contributions to Engineers Without Borders as one of the Project Managers of Engineers Without Borders of Yuba County and as a mentor in the Columbia Mentoring Initiative under the Black Family tree. As an EWB Project Manager, she helped organize and host events to strengthen relations across the club and with different communities around the world. Aaliyah has helped students at Columbia University connect with other students and professional partners to share resources and work on community projects, domestically and abroad through her work with community leaders in Ghana as well as Yuba County, California. As a Black international upperclassman, she has undertaken several mentees to help guide their Columbia University experience during their freshman years. She is also a member of the Society of Women Engineers and has participated in volunteering events to guide campus tours for visiting students from local schools.
I first would like to thank God for this incredible honor and recognition as a community leader. It is truly humbling to be nominated alongside my fellow peers who have made valiant strides throughout their academic careers. I’d like to thank my mom, dad, siblings, extended family, as well as all the professors and friends who have supported me over the last four years! I am forever grateful for this experience.
