Res. Inc.
The Office of Residential Programs and Columbia Engineering are pleased to announce Res Inc., the Engineering-Entrepreneurship Residential Initiative. This program, housed on the 8th floors of the Living Learning Center (LLC) in Hartley and Wallach Halls, offers a unique living and learning opportunity for engineers with interest in exploring a business venture.
Res Inc. establishes an environment for students to collaborate, develop programs and products, identify potential markets, and promote ideas as entrepreneurs. The Res Inc. curriculum provides students with access to faculty and professionals in their fields of interest, workshops to hone and develop entrepreneurial skills, the tools necessary to establish and implement a business plan, and internship opportunities to help further their projects and career goals.
Res Inc. participants attend a series of yearlong events that introduce them to the tools and concepts to start their own business and succeed as entrepreneurs. All Res Inc. programs and events are supported by Columbia Engineering, the Office of Residential Programs, and a dedicated network of alumni entrepreneurs.
History
In 2006, The Office of Residential Programs, in partnership with the Dean’s Office at Columbia Engineering, established The Gateway Residential Initiative (GRI) for first-year engineers and The Residential Engineering Initiative (REI) for upper-class engineers. Both programs were housed on the 8th floors of the Living Learning Center (LLC) in Hartley and Wallach Halls and allowed participants to develop a greater connection between their “gateway” lab classroom and residential experience. The re-structuring of the Gateway lab course in summer 2011 offered an opportunity to shift the focus of the program to encourage and support engineers with entrepreneurial ideas.
