In All Languages

The In All Languages department is devoted to bringing WKCR-FM listeners hard-to-find music because of its language, tradition, or place of origin. We strive to air original and exceptional shows selected from the world’s ever-expanding music archive. As long as there is a story yet to be told, no tracks are too popular or too obscure for our DJs. Through these stories, WKCR-FM becomes an outlet for music made in languages and contexts broader than English and broader than American, although even these distinctions become at times blurred as music in English and music made in America are host to incredible diversity themselves.

Programs within In All Languages broadcast many different versions of musical history, intriguing biographies, genre-blurring shows, and rare recordings on commercial-free airwaves. Interviews and live sets with contemporary artists keep the world’s many musical diasporas alive and expanding.

We take part in the international music conversation unique to New York, and serve our city’s diverse local communities, first-time listeners, and long-time enthusiasts alike, from Reggae, Hindustani, Celtic, Cumbia, Indie Rock, Non-Western Classical, Field Recordings, Experimental, Folk, Carnatic, Afrofunk, Film Hits, Ethio-Jazz, Chuigushou, Hip-Hip, and more…
