Tune in to Afternoon New Music at 3 pm on Tuesday, December 5th for an exclusive in-studio interview with composer/multi-instrumentalist Elliott Sharp. The hour-long program will discuss his opera Port Bou, which will be performed at WhiteBox on Wednesday, December 7th at 8 pm.

Composer and multi-instrumentalist Elliott Sharp is the leader of such projects as SysOrk, Orchestra Carbon and Tectonics, and Terraplane. Recipient of the Berlin Prize for 2015 and a Guggenheim Fellowship winner for 2014, Sharp has composed for Ensemble Modern, RadioSinfonie Frankfurt, and Arditti Quartet.

Elliott Sharp's opera Port Bou presents the last moments in the life of philosopher Walter Benjamin at Port-Bou in 1940 as he was fleeing Nazi-occupied France. The work features the astounding Nicholas Isherwood, bass/baritone, the virtuosi Jenny Lin, piano, and William Schimmel, accordion, as well as Sharp’s recorded electroacoustic sound files and the video sets and settings of Janene Higgins.
