This Week in the Classical Department: Philip Glass Opera Series on Saturday (Akhnaten)
Submitted by Ellen Walkington on Sat, 18 Jun 2011, 12:00am
Saturday, June 25th, 2011: At 9 PM we will continue 3-Part Philip Glass Summer Opera Series, featuring the third installment in Philip Glass’ portrait-opera-trilogy: Akhnaten (premiered 1983). Over the past half-century, Philip Glass has served musical communities as an innovative architect of “music with repetitive structures”, developing a large following along the way. With these operas, Glass brings his characteristic cerebral playfulness and harmonic curiosity to the lives of Albert Einstein, Mahatma Gandhi, and (ancient Egyptian pharaoh) Akhnaten.
