Love and Devotion on the Subcontinent:
This Sunday night's show shall explore the themes of love and devotion in the music of South Asia, specifically looking at genres such as ghazal (sung Sufi poetry), thumris (Krishna devotional songs traditionally performed by subaltern women) and other forms of bhajans (Hindu devotional songs). The show surveys music from both the Islamic and Hindu traditions, and seeks to elucidate concepts such as ishq (love, often divine love) and bhakti (devotion).
