Greek Governing Councils

The Greek Governing Councils together with the Fraternity & Sorority Life staff provide leadership for the Greek Community at Columbia University.

InterGreek Council

The InterGreek Council (IGC) is the self-governing student organization that provides guidelines and support to its member organizations within each of the three Greek councils at Columbia, the Interfraternity Council, Panhellenic Council, and Multicultural Greek Council. The three council presidents bring their affiliated chapters together once a month to meet as one Greek community. The InterGreek Council meetings provide opportunity for member organizations to learn from each other, work together and advocate for community needs. Through cross-council collaboration students achieve a greater level of success within the Greek community.

Interfraternity Council

The Interfraternity Council (IFC) is the self-governing student organization that provides guidelines and support to its member organizations. The IFC consists of organizations with national membership in the North-American Interfraternity Conference (NIC). Each organization is represented at IFC Meetings to discuss and vote on matters concerning member organizations and the fraternity community.

Panhellenic Council

The Panhellenic Council (Panhel) is the self-governing student organization that provides guidelines and support to its member organizations. Panhel consists of organizations with national membership in the National Panhellenic Conference (NPC). Each organization is represented at Panhel Meetings to discuss and vote on matters concerning member organizations and the Greek community. Panhellenic assists in establishing guidelines for membership recruitment, service opportunities, and social activities for NPC sorority members.

Multicultural Greek Council

The Multicultural Greek Council is the self-governing student organization that provides guidelines and support to its member organizations. The MGC consists of organizations with national membership in the National Association of Latino Fraternal Organizations (NALFO), the National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC), the National Asian Pacific American Panhellenic Association (NAPA) and the National Multicultural Greek Council (NMGC). Each organization is represented at MGC Meetings to discuss and vote on matters concerning member organizations and the Greek community.
