Technical Requirements: Computer Science

What is required?

Generally, one semester of computer science.  (Note that chemical engineering majors do not have a computer science requirement.)

Students choose from one of five courses, depending on their anticipated major and level of background knowledge:

• COMS W1003: Introduction to computer programming in C

• COMS W1004: Introduction to computer science and programming in Java

• COMS W1005: Introduction To Computer Science and Programming In MATLAB

• COMS W1007: Object-oriented programming and design in Java (prerequisite: COMS W1004 or equivalent)

• COMS W1009: Honors introduction to computer science (prerequisite: COMS W1004 or equivalent)

When?

First or second year.

Can I test out?

Yes, with departmental approval.
